Minor matter, by Ligia Lewis, a Dominican choreographer based in Berlin, premiered at HAU Hebbel am Ufer, in Berlin (Germany). Minor matter is developed in a multi-directional way creating a poem of dissonance, which raises questions of re-presentation, presentation, abstraction and the limits of meaning. Throughout the choreography, the performers push their bodies against the limits of the stage while they enact a humble relationship between their bodies and space, enticing them to approach the matter: black.
In Minor matter, the sound travels through musical periods to reach the poetics of the intimate present time. Built on the logic of interdependence, the parts of the theatre —light, sound, image and architecture— become intertwined with the three artists, giving life to a vibrant social and poetic space. As a dancer, Lewis performed for artists such as Mette Ingvartsen and Eszter Salamon. Minor matter is the second part of the Lewis’ trilogy (BLUE, RED, WHITE), built for three performers. A work where light, music and space lead the latter dissident bodies to the abyss; the abyss from which we will think how to go forward.
