Pre-Exposure meeting

Julio Cesar Iglesias Ungo, Hans van den Broeck, Danza Contemporánea de Cuba, Ben Frost

Friday 9 May 9 p.m.
City of Culture | Gaiás Centre Museum, Floor 0

An opportunity to delve deeper into Exposure before its premiere in Spain during the festival, through an open encounter between artists and the public. With the participation of choreographers, Julio Cesar Iglesias Ungo (Danza Contemporáena de Cuba) and Hans van der Broeck, accompanied by Australian musician Ben Frost, we will discover how the “five-pointed coalition” that gave rise to the piece was formed.

This is an unprecedented artistic alliance between five visions, five different creative forces, who came together for the first time in this project. On one side, the company Danza Contemporánea de Cuba, with all its richness, physicality, and identity; on the other, the German hip hop vanguard company Urban Arts Ensemble Ruhr, bringing its urban strength and unique language. Added to this is the sonic universe of Australian composer Ben Frost, whose music opened up a deep emotional landscape. Finally, the stage vision of Belgian artist and dancer Hans Van den Broeck and Cuban choreographer Julio César Iglesias, who served as the creator and bridge between all these worlds.

«This was the first time we worked in this way, in a process that placed Exposure at the center as a shared experience, not as a finished product. The essential thing here was not only what appears on stage but how we arrived there. The work was divided into two key phases: one in Cuba, where it was built from the island’s perspective, from our roots and codes; and the other in Germany, where the European vision, another energy, another reality, was incorporated. This back-and-forth between two such different territories created a cultural bridge—a common space where Cuban, German, Australian, urban, and contemporary elements do not compete, but intertwine. And I believe that is the most powerful aspect of Exposure: it succeeds in being a collective language, a work that breathes through many voices but speaks with a shared meaning». — Julio Cesar Iglesias Ungo.

Free entry until full capacity is reached.
