So de Cop
Arnau ObiolsThe installation of sound objects created by Arnau Obiols is the combination of the interests of this artist, one of the most interesting in contemporary creation, who works from the archives of the music of the oral tradition, in the fields of sound experimentation and the visual and plastic arts.
After having explored this fusion in other larger installations such as Butzurada, together with the sculptor Ernest Altés, in SO DE COP he plays with small stones, wood, teeth, water, snails and other natural elements that rub, collide or caress each other, moved by mechanical devices that are activated in Arnau’s poetics.
In SO DE COP each piece can be felt as a visual object or a sonorous ingenuity, all linked in the beauty, mystery and sonority of the elements of the forest, intervened with small motors and music that give them a new life.
NOTICE OF CHANGE OF LOCATION: the SO DE COP installation will be in the Sala Seminario of the Gaiás Centre Museum (Floor 0).
Arnau Obiols
He was born in La Seu d’Urgell, in the Catalan Pyrenees, in the autumn of 1985. As a child he began to play percussion with objects he found in the farmhouses of his godparents. Since then, drums and percussion have always accompanied him. Later on, Pyrenean song would join the percussion as an essential companion to make life sing.
Arnau Obiols has released six albums and has participated in projects in different musical fields, especially within contemporary jazz and improvisation. In recent years he has specialised in the revision, from a contemporary perspective, of the musical tradition of the Catalan-speaking territory and, especially, the Pyrenees.
Artistic interventions in nature have been a way for him to express his way of living and seeing the world (Rocs de Alendo Suite, Solo en se movimients, Ofrena, Brots Transhumants), and his work has also been marked by interdisciplinary projects with artists in dance, poetry, film, sculpture and literature.
