WANDERING HORIZONS
Laura Aris, Jakob Jautz, Jorge da RochaWondering Horizons arose from two walking journeys undertaken in July and September 2025: from Tübingen to Freiburg (through the Black Forest, Germany) and from the Trubia Valley (Asturias) to Santiago de Compostela, following the Camino Primitivo.
For fourteen days in each territory, Laura Aris and Jakob Jautz walked across landscapes, absorbing their atmospheres and qualities, as well as encounters with their human and more-than-human inhabitants. Throughout the journey, spontaneous and generous exchanges with local communities – farmers, artists, activists, animals, plants and the territory’s own meteorology – became an essential part of the creative process and of the ecological and poetic thinking that inspires the work.
The piece translates this experience into the language of the body: dance, music, voice and installation. A stage proposal that does not speak about us, but moves through us. In an attempt to extend the memory of the path and give space to the voices we encountered, our bodies become living archives of a recent past.
‘We choose to remain hopeful’ was the mantra that accompanied the process. We believe that imagining hopeful futures together is also a form of resistance – and sharing them, a practice of collective creation.
In this new presentation in Santiago – the final destination of the journey –Wondering Horizons is reactivated as an artistic, poetic and collective gesture.
NOTE: After Wondering Horizons, the Comando Dramatúrxico will host a conversation in the same space between audience members and artists to share impressions and reflections on this artistic pilgrimage and its place within the festival’s dramaturgy.
