WANDERING HORIZONS

Laura Aris, Jakob Jautz, Jorge da Rocha

Thursday 7 May 19:30h
City of Culture | CINC Building

Wondering Horizons arose from two walking journeys undertaken in July and September 2025: from Tübingen to Freiburg (through the Black Forest, Germany) and from the Trubia Valley (Asturias) to Santiago de Compostela, following the Camino Primitivo.

For fourteen days in each territory, Laura Aris and Jakob Jautz walked across landscapes, absorbing their atmospheres and qualities, as well as encounters with their human and more-than-human inhabitants. Throughout the journey, spontaneous and generous exchanges with local communities – farmers, artists, activists, animals, plants and the territory’s own meteorology – became an essential part of the creative process and of the ecological and poetic thinking that inspires the work.

The piece translates this experience into the language of the body: dance, music, voice and installation. A stage proposal that does not speak about us, but moves through us. In an attempt to extend the memory of the path and give space to the voices we encountered, our bodies become living archives of a recent past.

‘We choose to remain hopeful’ was the mantra that accompanied the process. We believe that imagining hopeful futures together is also a form of resistance – and sharing them, a practice of collective creation.

In this new presentation in Santiago – the final destination of the journey –Wondering Horizons is reactivated as an artistic, poetic and collective gesture.

NOTE: After Wondering Horizons, the Comando Dramatúrxico will host a conversation in the same space between audience members and artists to share impressions and reflections on this artistic pilgrimage and its place within the festival’s dramaturgy.

Laura Aris
is a performer, choreographer, and contemporary dance teacher widely recognized for her interpretative skills and her international pedagogical work. Her career spans renowned dance companies (Lanònima Imperial, Ultima Vez) as well as independent artistic projects. She is currently developing her creative practice from Belgium, combining commissioned work, solo performances, and numerous collaborations with other artists. Her interest lies in fostering an ongoing dialogue with contemporary dance, with other disciplines, and in the relationship between performers and audiences.

Jakob Jautz studied contemporary circus at Fontys-ACAPA (Netherlands) and furthered his training at the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance, completing a Master’s degree in dance and choreography in 2018. His work focuses on the relationship between the human and the more-than-human world, developing both performative projects (Traces, 2022; Wondering Horizons, 2025) and educational initiatives through the practice of based landscape choreography. He also collaborates with the University of Tübingen on projects related to the Rights of Nature, human–nature relationships, and embodied activism. He is a founding member of the Performing Arts Collective of Tübingen and is involved in the residency and event space Station Circus.

Jorge da Rocha is a Portuguese musician, composer, producer, and singer based in Barcelona, known for the way he explores the sound of the double bass, combining it with voice, electric guitar, percussion, and live looping. After working and performing in various musical projects across the Barcelona and Berlin scenes, he launched his solo career in 2016 with the albums These Are a Few of My Favourite Songs (2016), To Drop and Let Go (2017), BLAU – Being Lost As Usual (2020), and Lartic Soundtracks Vol. 1 (2025). He has performed on stages across Europe, Asia, and Latin America, and also composes soundtracks for film, theatre, and dance.
