The City of Culture is a point connecting Galicia with the rest of the world and a driver of innovative cultural projects. It was constructed on the summit of Gaiás, one of the hills that surround Santiago de Compostela.

The  American architect Peter Eisenman designed this “city” which appears to emerge from the land to rise as an icon of contemporary Galicia, in dialogue with the thousand-year-old Santiago, a heritage site of humanity and the destination of the Camino de Santiago.

This space, designed for culture,  entrepreneurship and technology, hosts four cultural institutions:

Centro Gaiás Museum. Its beauty and flexibility make this a perfect space for hosting large exhibitions, cultural events and theatrical productions. It is the cultural and artistic centre of the City of Culture.

Library and Archive of Galicia. They preserve the bibliographical and documentary memory of the region and act as the flagship of the public network of libraries and archives.

Centre for Creative Entrepreneurship. Hosts the Galician Agency for Cultural Industries (AGADIC), which

promotes the business fabric of the cultural sector in a coworking space, a seedbed of companies and an area of ICT companies.

Cultural Innovation Centre (CINC) This is the headquarters of the City of Culture Foundation and of the Agency for Technological Modernisation of Galicia, which brings together the technological services of the Galician government in one place.

Natural spaces. The Forest of Galicia, the Literary Garden, the Theatrical Garden and the Parque of the Lake are the green spaces in Gaiás. They are places where you can enjoy nature, rest, play sports and enjoy a healthy lifestyle through its network of paths and admire new views over the city of Santiago de Compostela.
